Petaluma Urban Chat

Downtown Petaluma
(Updated May 31, 2016)

Petaluma Urban Chat has met regularly since early 2012 to discuss land-use activities in Petaluma.  New participants are always welcome.

Draft Mission Statement: Petaluma Urban Chat meets regularly to discuss land use activities in Petaluma, to identify the practices and projects that would make Petaluma resilient, environmentally sustainable, and financially stable, and to encourage public participation and advocacy for best practices and projects.

June Meeting Date: The standing date and time for Urban Chat is the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm.  The next meeting will be Wednesday, June 8.  The meeting will be on the outside patio at the Aqus CafĂ©, 2nd and H Streets, Petaluma.

June Meeting Topic: The June meeting will discuss the recently initiated Bay Area 2040 effort by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and Association of Bay Area Governments, the intended result of which will be a planning document on the efficient use of limited transportation resources.  The Sonoma County outreach meeting will be on Monday, June 13.  The Urban Chat meeting will discuss the process and encourage attendance at the June 13 meeting.

Blog Connection: Petaluma Urban Chat originally began as an offshoot of my land-use blog.  My current post can always be found here.

A post on the desired role of Urban Chat in Petaluma is here.

And a post on the challenges of moving from good ideas to real change is here.

Email List: There is a standing email list of those who wish to be kept advised of Urban Chat meetings and related activities.  Contact me to be added to the list, to suggest others for addition, or to be removed. My contact information is below.

Field Trip: There is an Urban Chat equivalent in Sacramento.  Wonk Wednesday is held in a brewpub and focuses mostly on transportation issues.  It’s considered a credible event in the Sacramento political scene, with candidates often attending to woo the bike/ped constituency.  I don't have a date to propose, but plan to attend a Wonk Wednesday meeting as soon as I can.  If anyone wants to join me, let me know.  We can start considering dates.

Questions, comments, or a need to talk about Petaluma land-use?  Let me know.  – Dave Alden, davealden53@comcast.net
